How to Write the Best One-Page Synopsis

The dreaded synopsis!
How can you possibly sum up the entirety of your book in one single-spaced page? There are so many ways to write a compelling synopsis but getting there can be hard. We personally like to read clear, thrilling and spoiler-filled ones.
To get started, try thinking of your one-page synopsis in stages, or paragraphs:
Opening: It’s great to see a direct, one-line teaser. Think of it almost as a logline or a really sharp one-sentence way of summing up your book, e.g., A down-on-her luck woman living in Belfast leaves for job opportunities in rural Cork where she is haunted by the mysterious death of a boy. (The Burning Child of Bantry by Hanna Nielson, Wild Hunt Books 2023)
First Paragraph: Think of how your story opens and your character(s). What is the status quo and how is it upended?
Second Paragraph: A place for a good chunk of the plot. How does the story unfold and what obstacles get in the way for your character(s)?
Third Paragraph: Think about the conflict resolution. How does the story end and if there is a plot twist, this is a good point to mention it.
Of course, your synopsis can be adjusted to fit your needs but this format can help clearly outline your novel and enchant the reader.
